Pet skin mites
Today, we want to share an impressive sight captured through our microscope. The image shows an infestation of Cheyletiella spp. skin mites (both the mites themselves and their eggs are clearly visible), discovered in skin scrapings from a 4-year-old decorative rabbit.
This type of skin mite is common in dogs, cats, and rabbits. It typically manifests as scaly, itchy skin and hair loss. Treatment usually involves special “spot-on” drops applied to the neck.
It is important to note that if there are other animals living in the home, they should also receive preventive treatment at the same time. Additionally, the environment (floors, bedding, toys, etc.) must be disinfected with a special solution to prevent re-infestation.
