Fireworks
New Year’s Eve is relentlessly approaching, an occasion inseparable from colorful and noisy fireworks. While for people it is an impressive and long-awaited spectacle, for our four-legged friends, it is perhaps the most terrifying night of the year. Those raising a puppy or a kitten will likely agree, as a pet afraid of sound and flashes begins to panic—pacing restlessly, looking for a place to hide, panting heavily, drooling, trembling, or even barking and whimpering. If a pet is outside during fireworks, they may run away, causing unplanned stress for the owner trying to find them. This reaction to noise is easily explained: a pet’s hearing is 3 to 4 times stronger than a human’s!
Therefore, every loving owner should take additional safety measures on New Year’s Eve:
- Do not take your pet outside to watch the midnight fireworks under any circumstances! The last walk of the day should be at least 2–3 hours before midnight.
- Do not leave your pet home alone. Stay by their side and ensure they have a safe place to hide.
- Try calming aids if your pet is extremely sensitive to noise. These sedatives won’t put them to sleep but will provide a calming effect. There is a wide selection of safe products on the market that will help your pet endure New Year’s Eve more easily and without the usual stress.
