Diagnostic Gastroscopy
Diagnostic gastroscopy for pets is an internal examination of the digestive tract mucosa (esophagus, stomach, and duodenum) using specialized equipment called a gastroscope. This is a flexible, tube-like device equipped with an optical system and a light source.
Gastroscopy is a highly informative diagnostic method for investigating the upper gastrointestinal tract and identifying various diseases of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. The procedure is quick, extremely accurate, and—since it is performed under general anesthesia—causes no discomfort to the pet.
During this procedure, we can:
Take samples for cytology and/or biopsy;
Test gastric juice pH (to determine the type of gastritis);
Remove foreign bodies without any surgical incisions;
Perform a biopsy test for Helicobacter pylori infection.
A gastroscopy should be performed if your pet:
- Vomits more than once a day;
- Has blood in their vomit;
- Develops diarrhea;
- Experiences vomiting triggered by movement.
At our clinics, gastroscopy is an integral part of our daily practice. It provides the precision we need to establish an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the most effective treatment.
