Vincas’s Story

Regrettably, ticks never stop their “dirty work,” and we continue to see many dogs suffering from babesiosis. This rate is unfortunately very high during the spring and summer months. Today’s story is about Vincent (affectionately known as Vincas), a 7-year-old Belgian Shepherd who contracted babesiosis from a tick bite. His owners realized something was wrong when, for no apparent reason, Vincas became lethargic, weak, and lost his appetite. Upon arrival at the clinic, the physical examination revealed anemic and slightly jaundiced (yellowish) mucous membranes. Blood tests showed elevated kidney parameters, confirming the diagnosis: babesiosis. Understanding the gravity of the situation, the owners immediately consented to a course of hemodialysis. As the treatment progressed, jaundice began to develop, and his body temperature dropped to 36,5°C . However, neither Vincas, his owners, nor our medical team were willing to give up. After three days of intensive care, to everyone’s joy, Vincas’s condition began to improve! It took five hemodialysis sessions to stabilize his parameters, and now Vincas is finally feeling great again!Vincent’s story is a perfect example of how much faith and trust can achieve. Thank you for trusting us with your furry family members!
