The story of Nefertiti – removal of foreign objects
This post is about how important it is, when raising a pet, to create a safe environment for them to explore, especially if you can’t be with them all the time.
Pets are like small children, very curious and mischievous, especially when left alone at home, so it’s not surprising that 10-month-old Bengal kitten Nefertiti decided to spice up her day after finding hair ties and toy gun bullets at home! She explored them until she swallowed the hair ties and bullets, which ended up in her stomach. At home, some of these foreign objects were vomited up, but when Nefertiti became sluggish and refused to eat, her concerned owners took her to the clinic for a check-up to see if all the foreign objects had been vomited out or if some remained and were causing her discomfort.
During the clinical examination, foreign bodies were suspected in the digestive tract, so a diagnostic laparotomy was performed, during which hair ties and rubber balls were successfully removed from the stomach and small intestines.
Stay healthy, Nefertite, and have safe playtime!
