Mashka’s Story: Rat Poisoning

Meet Mashka—she’s not even a year old yet. In this photo, she doesn’t look very happy because, at the time, she was still being treated in our clinic’s inpatient ward. Read on to find out what happened.

Her owners brought Mashka to us in critical condition: the little one was lethargic, refusing to eat or drink. During the examination, we noted hematomas (bruising) on her mammary glands, neck, and limbs. Her mucous membranes were pale, she had tachycardia (an increased heart rate), and during blood sampling, her blood was slow to clot and kept flowing. She was also passing melena (black, tarry stools).

After laboratory tests, we suspected rat poison toxicity. Intensive treatment was started immediately; she required a blood transfusion and was hospitalized in our clinic until her condition stabilized.

Today, we are happy to share that Mashka has fully recovered and is healthy again!
