Insulin testing

Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common metabolic disorders in veterinary medicine, typically affecting middle-aged or senior dogs, cats, and even ferrets. Insulin is the only hormone responsible for lowering blood glucose levels by helping glucose enter the muscles and fatty tissues. Without insulin, the body cannot absorb the energy contained in glucose and begins to “starve.”

The insulin test is used for the diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus and hypoglycemia (a condition where blood glucose levels are too low). We want to emphasize that timely detection of this hormonal imbalance is critical to saving an animal’s life. At our clinics, these tests are performed using state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring accurate results that help establish a correct diagnosis and initiate treatment immediately.

Prevention is vital in these cases. We recommend performing these tests for your pets at least once a year, and for senior pets, several times a year may be necessary.
