Pet colonoscopy

Last Tuesday, we discussed gastroscopy for pets, its possibilities, and its importance in modern veterinary medicine. Today, we continue the topic of endoscopic examinations and will briefly tell you about pet colonoscopy.

A colonoscopy is an endoscopic examination of the rectum performed under general anesthesia; it is painless and causes no discomfort for the pet. This examination is extremely important in diagnosing diseases of the large intestine or colon in dogs and cats, which manifest as:

  • frequent diarrhea;
  • presence of blood or mucus in the stool;
  • unusual stool consistency;
  • the pet’s abdomen is painful, bloated, or rumbling.

These signs signal that the pet is unwell and requires veterinary assistance.

At our clinics, we use modern diagnostic endoscopic equipment, which allows us to carefully examine the area and, if necessary, take a sample for testing. In this way, we can easily establish a diagnosis and prescribe effective treatment.
