The History of Runes
In the photo, you can see Runa, a 3-year-old mixed-breed dog, who came to our clinic because she had become lethargic over the past few days, was not eating, was drinking little, and, additionally, her owners had removed a tick a week prior. Following a clinical examination and the necessary blood tests, advanced babesiosis was diagnosed, which had impaired kidney function and caused kidney failure. Three hemodialysis procedures were performed, after which we can now say that Runa’s condition is expected to improve.
In the photo, Runa is pictured at our clinic after her second hemodialysis session. Observant viewers may notice her neck is bandaged – this was to safely leave the catheter in the jugular vein until the next hemodialysis session.
At present, Runa is feeling really well; dialysis is no longer needed, only time and care are required to recover from such a serious illness. Stay healthy and strong, Runa! Runa’s story serves as a reminder to all puppy owners of the importance of tick protection, as forgetting or improperly using it can lead to very sad consequences, potentially far worse than what Runa experienced.
