The history of Mūras
The medical history of this large-eyed cat is long and complicated, but most importantly – it has a happy ending. Mūra came to our clinic due to long-standing, spreading, itchy skin around the ears, dull fur, and sores in the mouth. Blood tests suggested eosinophilic granuloma (an inflammatory infection affecting the animal’s skin and mucous membranes). Medication was prescribed, but unfortunately, it only worked briefly. Moreover, it caused a strong side effect in Mūra – abdominal swelling and pain. None of the available drug options were suitable for treating this condition, as they caused the same side effects and worked for only a short time. As the oral lesions progressed, surgery became necessary.
During the operation, samples were sent to a laboratory in Germany due to suspicions of cancer. A week later, the results did not confirm the suspicions but clarified the diagnosis – moderate to severe chronic dominant eosinophilic necrotizing inflammation. After a long search for the right medication, another treatment was applied, which allows the disease to be managed with slightly fewer side effects.
On top of that, Mūrai had to face a very rare orthopedic problem in cats – a torn cruciate ligament in the hind leg. The leg was successfully operated on, and the kitten lives a full and happy life despite illness and injuries.
