The Story of the Prince – Eye
Today’s story hero is a 6-year-old Maltese Bichon named Prince. The little dog came to our clinic after 1.5 months of unsuccessful treatment at two other clinics, and during the examination, his condition was really poor – lethargic, weak, with the eyeball exposed, and the surrounding tissues dead and fallen out. The case is truly exceptional; in our many years of practice, we thought we had seen it all, but we don’t remember anything like this, and the treatment was long and complicated.
During the first examination, we performed all the necessary blood tests, an X-ray, conducted an antibiotic resistance test (because until now, Prince had been unsuccessfully treated with antibiotics), took a biopsy, and sent it to a laboratory in Germany for the diagnosis of a oncological disease. Since Prince’s condition was poor, with developed sepsis, and the response from Germany was expected in 3-4 days, we decided not to waste any time and kept the patient in the clinic’s intensive care unit, started symptomatic treatment, and also managed to find an antibiotic that at least somewhat affected the causative agent.
The response from Germany brought some relief – no oncological disease was found, but the true cause of the illness was revealed – pyogranulomatosis. Sepsis had also caused considerable damage – even the joints were affected, and anemia developed, which had to be managed with frequent blood transfusions. And finally, a light at the end of the tunnel – after two months of intensive treatment, Prince’s overall condition began to stabilize, though an eye-saving operation was still awaited. To preserve the eyeball and improve its appearance, it was decided to perform eye plastic surgery, followed by a long recovery and extremely careful eye care. The efforts were not in vain – after more than three months, Prince recovered, and you can see the result in this photo.
It’s hard to believe how much Prince had to go through during this period, but the most important thing is that he is healthy, and his little eye has been preserved!
We want to warn you right away that the photos of the healing process shared in the comments are definitely not for the faint of heart.
