The History of Scotch – An Upset Stomach

Our long-time patient, 13-year-old Shar Pei Shot, was brought to the clinic on Pramonės Avenue with a significantly enlarged abdomen and difficulty breathing. The owners noticed these symptoms and acted very promptly, bringing their pet to the clinic in less than an hour after they appeared. Diagnostic procedures revealed that Shot had a twisted stomach. The situation was truly critical due to both the patient’s very advanced age (it was uncertain how he would endure the surgery) and the low survival rate for such operations (when intervention is delayed, and due to subsequent complications, the animal often does not survive). However, this time the situation was optimistic because the owners had full trust in our team, and the pet was brought to the clinic very quickly after the onset of symptoms, which is critically important for the success of the surgery. So, without any delay, saving every precious minute, a gastric opening surgery was performed, which was very successful, and a couple of hours after it, Šotas left the clinic on his own feet! The patient feels great, eats eagerly, drinks, and enjoys a dignified old age.

The team is incredibly happy about the senior’s endurance and the successful outcome of the surgery!
We have been successfully performing stomach torsion surgeries for many years and are one of the few clinics in Lithuania that even carry out this complex operation.
So if you notice your pet’s increased abdominal size, excessive salivation, or panting, you should take the animal to a veterinarian immediately, as the first 2 hours are critically important for the success of the treatment.
